Gamification: A Game Changer for Business by Hadas Kashir #bmancsc
TL;DR: Gamification is an excellent way to motivate people- no matter what you need from them.
Why games?
Games are a powerful driver of human motivation. Why do we play games? We want to gain progress & accomplishment, control, success, recognition.
What and why gamification?
Gamification is the application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts.
Example #1: Customer Loyalty Programs
Example #2: LinkedIn
At work? Why now?
Only 31% of employees are engaged at work. The least engaged generation in a workforce are Millennials. Millennials, are the first generation to fully grow up with video games- with 10k+ hours of game time by age 22.
Intrinsic motivation is powerful. A game can help them achieve this.
Gamification creates a line of sight between job requirements and corporate objectives.
Recognition and Communication is essential for gamification success.
Editorial comment (my thoughts):
I didn't realize how much of what I do is gamified. My business is about increasing visits from organic search that lead to more leads. It's inherently about gamification. If I share these goals (and, therefore, the gamification) with all the parties involved I can unlock stumbling blocks. Having trouble from web developers? Encourage them to take the company's traffic to the next level by making a change.
I'm wonering how I could create a series of "badges" for my clients to unlock.
